Until I Saw What Was Happening Online.

Countless “handmade” handpans appeared — many mass-produced, poorly tuned, or never delivered at all. People spent thousands chasing a sound that didn’t exist.

As a musician and builder, that hit me deeply. The handpan is supposed to bring peace, connection, and honesty — not disappointment. So I decided to do something about it.

In 2017, while visiting Bali, I heard the sound of a handpan for the first time.
The tone was warm, alive — almost spiritual.

That single sound stayed with me. A year later, I returned to Bali, where I met a group of talented local craftsmen. Their precision, patience, and passion for sound mirrored my own.

Together, we started crafting — shaping steel with hammers, tuning by ear, learning through trial and error. Our little studio among the rice fields became a place where sound and soul could meet.

That same year, LIDAH was born. We don’t rush production or outsource to factories. Every LIDAH Handpan is hand-shaped, gone through 4+ tuning rounds, and sound-checked in our Bali studio.

Before it leaves for its new home, it’s tested again in our Netherlands showroom to ensure every note is perfect. It’s not the fastest way — but it’s the only way we know to create something that lasts a lifetime

From day one, we wanted LIDAH® to create positive change — for both people and planet.

We collaborate closely with Balinese artisans under fair-trade principles, and a portion of every sale supports the YKPA Foster Home in Bali, providing education and food for over 40 children.

For every wooden instrument we sell, we plant a tree in Indonesia to help restore balance to the ecosystems that give us our materials. Because music that heals people should also help the world it comes from.
